Jai Uttal’s eclectic East-meets-West sound has put his music at the forefront of the world-fusion movement. Jai’s musical roots embrace everything from the hillbilly music of the Appalachian Mountains to the strains of Bengali street singers, from the rhythms and melodies of ancient India to contemporary electric rock sounds. Having traveled extensively in India, where he met many beautiful saints and singers, as well as his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, Bhakti Yoga became his personal path.
Jai has been teaching and leading kirtans around the world for more than 40 years, creating a safe environment for people to open their hearts and voices. He calls Kirtan his "soul support system" and still marvels at how his deeply private spiritual practice became a very public profession. Jai's sixth CD, Mondo Rama, received a Grammy nomination, and since then he has released over ten more albums expressing his love and longing for the Guru's Grace and most recently, the double CD set, Roots Rock Rama!"
