My Profile & Retreats
Jenny Kaufman
Jenny believes a yoga practice is uniquely personal; the benefits are endless – from more open hips and hamstrings, greater lung capacity, healing from injury, a catalyst for a healthier lifestyle, spiritual exploration, or that mysterious yoga glow. As a student in a class setting, on a retreat, or in private instruction, she will begin with you, exactly where you are. Her goal is to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable, to give clear instructions and cues that allow each person to safely explore the postures, and to help you breathe, smile, and feel more open. Jenny began practicing yoga over 25 years ago and has been teaching for the last 20. Her initial 200-hour Yoga Alliance certification is from The Chicago Yoga Center. She has also completed certification with Judith Lasater... Read More

FAQ

Where does this retreat take place? What are the accommodations like?

Our retreat will take place at Haramara Retreat Center in beautiful Sayulita, Mexico. Nestled above the Pacific Ocean on 12 private acres of tropical jungle with a private and pristine beach.

The property's hand-built cabanas offer spectacular views of the jungle and ocean. Each cabana has a bathroom with a shower, flush toilet and hot and cold water. Some cabanas have private hammocks for lazy afternoon siestas.

The magnificent 360-degree view yoga pavilions, with their high thatched roofs and handcrafted hardwood floors, have been positioned to take advantage of the panoramic views of lush mountains, while taking advantage of the soothing ocean breezes. Well stocked with all the yoga props you may need.

The restaurant offers exceptional, creative, local cuisine that includes fresh and delicious mostly organic gourmet meals.

To learn more about this property please visit Haramara's website here.

What if I am traveling alone?

International Yoga gets hundreds of individuals each year who travel alone on retreat. Going on retreat is a great way to meet like-minded people and make new friends!

For this trip we have a limited number of single rooms available. If you were not able to secure a single room we encourage you to sign up for one of the shared options, and we would be happy to pair you with another traveler / travelers of the same gender.

Are meals included in my program cost?

Delicious and healthy gourmet meals are made from only the freshest natural and local ingredients.  The menu is chosen daily by the chef based on the ingredients that are available.  The always-changing daily menu includes seafood or vegetarian dishes.  Special dietary restrictions or requirements can be accommodated. Please be sure to note these in your registration form.

Coffee and fresh squeezed juice is offered in the mornings.  Tea, purified water and fresh fruit water are available all day.  Beer, wine and margaritas are available for purchase in the afternoons and at dinner.

Are gratuities included?

Tips for the kitchen, dining & housekeeping staff are not included in your trip price. We suggest that you budget $15 U.S. per day/person or $100 US per week/person. This will be shared amongst all the service staff. You may leave this with our manager at the end of your stay. Gratuities for the Spa Staff need to be paid directly to them at the time of service. All gratuities should be paid in cash.

What airport do I fly into?

Your international flight needs to be booked round trip to Puerto Vallarta (airport code: PVR).

Are airport transfers included in the price of my trip?

No, airport transfers are not included in your trip. Once you have provided us with your flight information, we will organize your airport transfer for you. The total cost of the transfer from the airport to/from Haramara costs between $35 - $95 per person, depending on the number of passengers sharing the van. Your driver will collect the fee directly in $US. We will advise on the exact cost of your transfer pertaining to total passengers about one week prior to departure.

Do I need a visa for travel to Mexico?

No, acquiring a visa prior to your travel to Mexico is not required. During the flight to Puerto Vallarta you will be given documentation to fill out which you will then need to present to the immigration official upon your entry into Mexico. BE SURE YOU KEEP THIS PIECE OF PAPER FOR YOUR DEPARTURE. You will be asked for this upon check-in for your return flight home. If you do not have this piece of paper there will be a fine and the hassle of redoing all of this paperwork on the spot!

Does my travel require any vaccinations?

There are no required vaccinations for travel to Mexico. However, there are some recommended (suggested) vaccinations given by the CDC. To see the complete list of what is recommended, please visit the CDC Website and consult with your primary care physician to make a decision on what is best for you.

What is the weather like in Sayulita?

The weather is expected to be warm and humid with highs ranging in the upper to mid 80's during the day.

Is there Wi-Fi available? Will my cell phone work?

Haramara does not provide Wi-Fi access or phones (it’s a true, unplugged retreat experience!) If you would like to use the internet during the retreat, you may need to go to a Wi-Fi café in the nearby town of Sayulita, which is a 5-minute taxi ride away.

Depending on your service provider, there is some cell phone reception at the highest point on the property as well as some of the cabanas. During your stay, please make sure that your cell phone is turned off or set to "Do Not Disturb" during practices and group meals. If you make or receive calls, please do so away from the yoga shalas, spa area, and pool, so as not to be disruptive!

Is there electricity?

There is no electricity in the cabanas.  They are illuminated at night with oil lamps and candles.  You will be unable to use any small electrical appliances like hair dryers, curling irons or razors.  There are no fans or air conditioning in the cabanas.  If you want to read at night, you will need to bring a book light with you.  There is no outdoor lighting so you will need to carry a flashlight or use a headlamp at night.  There is, however, electricity in the Yoga Pavilion and the Restaurant for recharging batteries.  It is the same voltage as the United States so no converter is needed.

How many people are expected on this retreat?

Attendance varies from trip to trip, but 15 to 20 participants is typical.

Can you tell me more about the yoga offered during this retreat?

Yoga will be generally be offered twice daily (morning & evening), except arrival and departure days will be only one session each. All levels of yoga experience are welcome on International Yoga retreats.

Do I need travel insurance?

International Yoga strongly recommends the purchase of travel insurance. A personal, political, environmental, health or weather-related incident may arise that can prevent or interrupt your travels. Note that if you elect to not purchase travel insurance you will be assuming 100% of any costs associated with the cancellation/ interruption of your retreat.

As International Yoga cannot advise on specific travel insurance plans, we recommend the reputable travel insurance aggregator InsureMyTrip. They will provide personalized support in selecting a travel insurance provider and policy that works best for your specific needs. Note that most travel insurance providers require that you purchase coverage within 7 to 10 days of your initial booking.
