Magical Journey Through Morocco

Magical Journey Through Morocco

With desert dwellings, mountain peaks, ancient cities, and rich culture, Morocco is a destination unlike any other. Situated between Europe and the Middle East, this spectacular African country is a mystifying mix of old world and new age culture. The fusion of rich colors, remarkable landscapes, hand-crafted treasures and, once-in-a-lifetime adventures are woven together by Marc's yoga and meditation teachings. Together we will transform our yoga mats into a magic carpet and explore ourselves as well as our unique surrounding environment. We begin our journey in Marrakech, wandering through the labyrinth of the Medina as we sip fresh-pressed mint tea. Behind every city wall is an adventure in art, architecture, and cuisine. We will take in all of the notable historical sights, learn to cook with the flavors of the region and indulge in a traditional hammam. From Marrakech, we're driven to the nearby Agafay Desert, where we will slumber beneath the stars in gorgeously designed luxury tents. Our days will be bookended by yoga overlooking the vast desert sand dunes, and dinner beneath the starry night sky. Our final destination is among the spectacular Atlas Mountains, home to North Africa’s highest mountain peak. Here, we stay in an exquisite Kasbah surrounded by green fields, groves of olive, lemon, and orange trees, and picturesque views of the nearby purple mountain peaks. Day trips take us to provincial mountain villages to see a slower pace of life in the region. All of our accommodations are carefully chosen for their location, high-end services, and luxurious design. Every detail of our trip has been carefully thought out to provide you with expert guides and an unforgettable experience.

Marc St. Pierre
Marc believes that the best part about teaching yoga is that it constantly invites him to understand more, "More about the people I teach, the world around me, and how those interactions can support my becoming a more wise, compassionate and overall better human. The success rate seems to have improved....with practice.” With over 20 years of experience teaching and practicing, Marc says he has had a little time to refine things as a teacher and human and always does his best to serve his students with skill, empathy, and thoughtfulness. And, while it’s not always easily administered, some truth too. He says "this experiment mostly succeeds. Awareness is the key factor. Kindness is the application." Japan, Australia, Europe, South & Central America, are places where he's been ... Read More

FAQ

What is the cancellation & refund policy for this trip?

For bookings made prior to March 1, 2020: Your final balance payment was collected on December 13, 2019 and no further payments are due. As outlined in our Terms & Conditions, these payments are final, non-refundable and non-transferable.

For bookings made after March 1, 2020: A $1000 non-refundable and non-transferable deposit is required to secure your participation in this retreat. The final balance payment is due by December 16, 2020 and we will send you an invoice and a link to complete payment approximately one week in advance of the deadline. If you do not complete payment by the due date, the card on file will be automatically charged unless you advise us in advance of that date in writing that you are canceling. As provided in our Terms & Conditions all payments are final and non-refundable/non-transferable after December 16, 2020.

When should I place my deposit for this trip?

Given the complexity and extremely limited number of spaces at our handpicked luxury accommodations, we strongly suggest placing your deposit as soon as possible.

What airport do I fly into?

You will book your international ticket into and out of Marrakesh (airport code: RAK).

If you wish to arrive a day early to settle in and get acclimated we can request additional nights at our group hotel. Please contact us directly for rates

Are there group airfares?

There are no group airfares, as we will have people joining us from all over the US, with some arriving early, some arriving late, some using miles, etc. We are happy to provide guidance and review any itineraries you find. Please contact us before purchasing flights, and as always, travel insurance is strongly recommended.

Do I need a visa for travel to Morocco?

American citizen visitors to Morocco do not need a visa if they are traveling as a tourist with a valid U.S. passport. You will be issued a visa upon arrival, which is valid for up to 90 days.

Important: Your passport must be valid for 6 months beyond your date of entry into Morocco.

What if I am traveling alone?

We get hundreds of travelers each year who go on retreat alone. If you are traveling without a friend or partner, but prefer to share your room, we will do our best to match you with another traveler of the same gender. If for some reason, we are not able to match you with a roommate, a single supplement will apply.

If you prefer to have your own private room, a single supplement will apply.

Do I need to bring a mat and will props be available during yoga classes?

Yes, please bring your own mat in addition to blocks and a strap if you use props during your practice.

Are airport transfers included in the price of my trip?

Yes, private airport transfers are included in the price of your trip. Note if you arrive early and decide to stay at an alternate location other than our group hotel, you will be responsible for coordinating and paying for your own transportation directly with the hotel where you will be staying.

What vaccinations do I need?

There are no required vaccinations to travel to Morocco. There are, however, some recommended vaccines for travel to Morocco given by the CDC. To see the complete list of what is recommended, please visit the CDC Website and consult with your primary care physician to make these arrangements in advance.

Do I need travel insurance?

International Yoga strictly adheres to the cancellation policy outlined in our Terms & Conditions and does not make exceptions under any circumstances. For this reason, we strongly recommended the purchase of travel insurance. In order to guarantee maximum coverage, most travel insurance providers require that you obtain a policy within 7-10 days of placing your initial deposit. There are a broad variety of policies and providers for you to choose from. Be sure to understand the fine print of the policy you select to ensure you know exactly what is and isn’t covered — especially if you are concerned you may need to cancel for COVID-19 / pandemic-related reasons (which most carriers would cover only under a "Cancel for Any Reason" tier of coverage). Although International Yoga cannot advise on specific policies or providers, you may find this guide helpful.

How many people are expected on this retreat?

Attendance varies from trip to trip, but 12-25 attendees is a general average.

What are the accommodations like?

We will be staying at gorgeous 5-star hotels chosen for their location and quality of service throughout Morocco. We’ve used them all for groups in the past. Please contact us at info@internationalyoga.com for details on where you will be staying for your specific itinerary.

Are all levels of yoga experience welcome, from beginning to more advanced?

Yes, all levels are welcome. You will find that wherever you are in your practice you will get just what you need out of the yoga classes on this retreat. International Yoga works only with experienced and extremely qualified teachers, which ensures that everyone’s yoga needs will be met.
