Retreat & Safari in Tanzania

Join International Yoga and Peggy Orr on a once in a lifetime adventure to spectacular Tanzania. The first portion of our journey will be spent with Simon Mtuy at his family’s hotel in a village on the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro. We will explore this beautiful area that is truly off the beaten track, get to know people in the region and experience daily life in Tanzania. Learn more about Simon on this video from National Geographic.  The second half of our journey will be spent exploring the awe-inspiring and iconic national parks of Serengeti, Ngoronogoro Crater and Lake Manyara where the "Big 5" reside. Accommodation will be in comfortable safari lodges and luxury camps and we will be able to enjoy unlimited game drives each day with our private guides and drivers.  Peggy will lead us in daily yoga classes throughout the trip in some truly spectacular settings.

The journey will wrap up with a spectacular outing in the Serengeti. The very adventurous are invited to join Peggy and a small group of friends for a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho Route, an 8-day journey up the mountain which allows for maximum acclimatization, spectacular views, a bit more time in the beautiful lower elevations, on a much less crowded route. Please contact us for more information about the Kilimanjaro climb.

Peggy Orr
Peggy began her yoga practice in 1989 with Chuck Miller at the original YogaWorks on Montana. At the time, it was just a small room with a nail salon next door. Over the years, her practice became very important to her, and still is. Influential teachers include Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Erich Schiffman, Paul Grilley, Tim Miller and Tony Briggs. Peggy brings her deep connection to movement, offbeat humor, and life experience to her practice. Teaching is her karma yoga.

FAQ

What airport do I fly into?

Your international flights will be booked into and out of Kilimanjaro International Airport (airport code: JRO).

Do I need a Visa for Africa?

Entry into Tanzania requires a passport and visa. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay. Visas can be obtained in advance at any Tanzanian embassy or may be purchased upon arrival at all international airports and border crossings in Tanzania. The cost is $100 for U.S. citizens and must be paid in USD cash only.

Do I need vaccinations to travel to Africa?

No immunizations are required to enter Tanzania, except proof of yellow fever vaccination for those travelers entering Tanzania from a country that is yellow fever endemic. We advise you consult with your primary care physician or a travel health specialist about recommended immunizations. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control website includes Tanzania-specific information.

What will the weather be like?

Dry seasons are January through March and mid-June through October, although it can rain any time of year. Days will be warm with highs in the low 80s F (26-28°C). Nights are cool, particularly around the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Even with open windows and sun shade the safari vehicle may get hot mid-day.

Who are our guides?

You will be accompanied by a trained wildlife guide and expert in Tanzania ecology, who will be with you throughout the safari portion of your trip. All of our guides are fluent in English, have many years experience on safari, have taken several wildlife courses, and are superior drivers. You will discuss  and be briefed on each day's plans by your guide.

What if I am traveling alone?

We get hundreds of travelers each year who go on retreat alone. If you are traveling without a friend or partner, but prefer to share your room, we will do our best to match you with another traveler of the same gender. If for some reason, we are not able to match you with a roommate 50% of the supplement will be applied to your final invoice.

If you prefer to have your own private room (note: these are extremely limited), a single supplement will apply.
