Journey to the Heart of Morocco

Every journey is a story. Our story begins with stepping through “The Gateway to Morocco” into the cosmopolitan port city of Tangier, where cultures have co-mingled for millennia, and modernity lives alongside tradition. We’ll experience Tangier’s intoxicating character, a heady concoction of an Arab/Berber base with European notes of Spain, Portugal, France, and England. While there, we will visit Tangier’s quaint, sweet neighbor, the nearby seaside village of Asilah. Our story continues to unfold as we leave Tangier to cross the Moroccan countryside by train, traveling over rolling hills, past crops and orchards, and through charming hillside towns. The further we travel, the more we move back through time, until we reach the deep, spiritual heart of Morocco, the UNESCO Heritage site and ancient imperial capital of Fez.  Here we encounter the historic, cultural, and intellectual depth of Morocco. The bustling souks, the call to prayer, and the craftsman at work in their studios. We shop for handmade wares, taste homemade tajines, luxuriate in exotic hammams, and learn about the Sufi mystics of Fez, the yogis of Islam. Our story comes to a meaningful end at the renowned World Sacred Music Festival, where the world’s greatest sacred music artists stir our hearts and feed our souls with song. A story to remember.  A story just waiting to happen.

FAQ

Is this more of a yoga retreat or an adventure trip?

This experience leans more toward an immersive travel adventure, with a rhythm that reflects the vibrancy of Northern Morocco. While we’ll enjoy at least one yoga practice each day—some days offering two and a bit more leisure. Our journey moves from the cultural crossroads of Tangier to the artistic coastal town of Asilah, and into the spiritual heart of Fes, each rich in character and charm. We’ll explore historic medinas, connect with local artisans, and soak in the region’s diverse cultural influences. Come ready to move, engage, and be inspired by the music, stories, and spirit of this unforgettable region.

What kind of yoga can I expect on this retreat?

Ann's practices are often layered with chant, breathwork, and meditation to create a complete and embodied experience. In retreat settings, her teaching draws from the art, music, poetry, and spiritual traditions of the local culture, making each session not just a practice, but a window into the soul of a place. Whether flowing through vinyasa, aligning with precision, or resting in stillness, her classes are memorable journeys that leave students energized, grounded, and deeply connected. Expect practices that are both uplifting and transformative—designed to nourish lifelong well-being and presence on and off the mat.

When should I place my deposit for this trip?

Note that because we must strictly adhere to our cancellation policy, you will be responsible for 100% of any costs associated with the cancellation or interruption of your retreat should you choose not to purchase travel insurance.

While we do not provide recommendations for specific policies, we suggest exploring options through the reputable travel insurance aggregator, InsureMyTrip.
