POSTPONED: Yoga & Culture in Morocco

With desert dwellings, mountain peaks, ancient cities, and rich culture, Morocco is a destination like no other. Situated between Europe and the Middle East, this spectacular African country is a mystifying mix of old world and new age culture. The fusion of rich colors, remarkable landscapes, and once-in-a-lifetime adventures, woven together by Ann's yoga and meditation practices, will transform your yoga mat into a magic carpet. We begin our journey in the spectacular Atlas Mountains, North Africa’s highest mountain range. Here, we stay in an exquisite Kasbah surrounded by green fields, groves of olive, lemon, and orange trees, and picturesque views of the nearby purple mountain peaks glittered with snow. Day trips take us to provincial mountain villages.  From there, we're driven to Marrakech, where we will wander through the labyrinth of medinas as we sip fresh-pressed mint tea. Behind every city wall is an adventure in art, architecture, and cuisine. Our final destination is the Stone Desert, where we will slumber beneath the stars in gorgeously designed upscale tents. Our days begin with a yoga practice overlooking the vast desert sand dunes and end with dinner beneath the starry night sky. All of our accommodations are carefully chosen for their location, high-end services, and luxurious design. Every detail of our trip has been carefully thought out to provide you with expert guides and unforgettable experiences.

Ann Dyer Cervantes
Ann Dyer Cervantes reconnects her students to the innate pleasure of moving their bodies for classes that bring joy as well as results. Her teaching —  grounded in her beginnings in Iyengar Yoga, a degree in dance, and the study of somatics — inspires and integrates the body, heart, and mind while keeping her students safe. Classes often include chant, breathwork, and meditation for a complete yoga practice. Her teaching in international retreats draws inspiration from the art, poetry, music, and spiritual traditions of the local culture for an exceptionally deep, memorable retreat experience.  Ann is the Owner/Director of Mountain Yoga in Oakland. FAQ

What is the cancellation & refund policy?

For bookings made prior to March 1, 2020: Your final balance payment was collected on December 18, 2019 and no further payments are due. As outlined in our Terms & Conditions these payments made are final, non-refundable and non-transferable.

For bookings made after March 1, 2020: A $1000 non-refundable and non-transferable deposit is required to secure your participation in this retreat. The final balance payment is due by December 4, 2020 and we will send you an invoice and a link to complete payment approximately one week in advance of the deadline. If you do not complete payment by the due date, the card on file will be automatically charged on December 4, 2020, unless you advise us in advance of that date in writing that you are canceling. As provided in our Terms & Conditions all payments are final and non-refundable/non-transferable after December 4, 2020.

When should I place my deposit for this trip?

Given the complexity and extremely limited number of spaces at our handpicked luxury accommodations, we strongly suggest placing your deposit as soon as possible.

What airport do I fly into?

You will book your international ticket into and out of Marrakesh (airport code: RAK).

If you wish to arrive a day early to settle in and get acclimated we can request additional nights at our group hotel. Please contact us directly for rates

Are all levels of yoga experience welcome, from beginning to more advanced?

Yes, all levels are welcome. You will find that wherever you are in your practice you will get just what you need out of the yoga classes on this retreat. International Yoga works only with experienced and extremely qualified teachers, which ensures that everyone's yoga needs will be met.

Do I need travel insurance?

International Yoga strictly adheres to the cancellation policy outlined in our Terms & Conditions and does not make exceptions under any circumstances. For this reason, we strongly recommended the purchase of travel insurance. In order to guarantee maximum coverage, most travel insurance providers require that you obtain a policy within 7-10 days of placing your initial deposit. There are a broad variety of policies and providers for you to choose from. Be sure to understand the fine print of the policy you select to ensure you know exactly what is and isn't covered, especially if you are concerned you may need to cancel for COVID-19 / pandemic-related reasons (which most carriers would cover only under a "Cancel for Any Reason" tier of coverage). Although International Yoga cannot advise on specific policies or providers, you may find this guide helpful.

Do I need to bring a mat and will props be available during yoga classes?

Yes, please bring your own mat in addition to blocks and a strap if you use props during your practice.

Are there group airfares?

There are no group airfares, as we will have people joining us from all over the US, with some arriving early, some arriving late, some using miles, etc. We are happy to provide guidance and review any itineraries you find. Please contact us before purchasing flights, and as always, travel insurance is strongly recommended

What if I am traveling alone?

We get hundreds of travelers each year who go on retreat alone. If you are traveling without a friend or partner, but prefer to share your room, we will do our best to match you with another traveler of the same gender. If for some reason, we are not able to match you with a roommate, a single supplement will apply.

If you prefer to have your own private room, a single supplement will apply.

Do I need a visa for travel to Morocco?

American citizen visitors to Morocco do not need a visa if they are traveling as a tourist with a valid U.S. passport. You will be issued a visa upon arrival, which is valid for up to 90 days.

Important: Your passport must be valid for 6 months beyond your date of entry into Morocco.

Are airport transfers included in the price of my trip?

Yes, private airport transfers are included in the price of your trip. Note if you arrive early and decide to stay at an alternate location other than our group hotel, you will be responsible for coordinating and paying for your own transportation directly with the hotel where you will be staying.

What are the accommodations like?

We will be staying at gorgeous 5-star hotels chosen for their location and quality of service throughout Morocco. We've used them all for groups in the past. Please contact us at [email protected] for details on where you will be staying for your specific itinerary.

What vaccinations do I need?

There are no required vaccinations to travel to Morocco. There are, however, some recommended vaccines for travel to Morocco given by the CDC. To see the complete list of what is recommended, please visit the CDC Website and consult with your primary care physician to make these arrangements in advance.

How many people are expected on this trip?

Attendance varies from trip to trip, but 12-25 attendees is a general average.
