Food For The Soul in Oaxaca

Food For The Soul in Oaxaca

When Andrea went to Oaxaca for a language immersion last February, she fell in love with Oaxaca City. The prehispanic Zapotec and Mixtec cultural history has a unique influence on the food, art, and alegría de la vida of the region. It inspired her so much, that she curated this retreat. Every aspect is hand-picked by Andrea--from the exclusive boutique accommodations with rooftop yoga overlooking the mountains to the excursions, food (Oaxaca is hailed as "Mexico's food capital") walking adventures, and hidden gems she can't wait to share with you. The tastes, colors, celebrations, and vitality of Oaxaca combined with Andrea's signature yoga make this a soul-feeding journey you don't want to miss.

IY Travel Impact

Since 2015, Thread Caravan has been facilitating cultural art workshops in rural communities plagued by high street dog populations. Out of this initiative, Caravana Canina naturally emerged to address pressing community needs. With a focus on spaying and neutering as a long-term solution to combat neglect and abuse, the project has also provided crucial care such as feeding, vaccination, deworming, fostering, and adoption. Over 159 dogs have found new homes, 484 have undergone spaying and neutering procedures, and countless others have received essential care in Mexico.

International Yoga strongly recommends the purchase of travel insurance. A personal, political, environmental, health or weather-related incident may arise that can prevent or interrupt your travels. If you do not purchase travel insurance you will assume 100% of any costs associated with the cancellation/ interruption of your retreat.

While we cannot advise on specific travel insurance policies, we recommend looking at plans through the reputable travel insurance provider, Travelex. The FAQ section at the bottom of their website is quite helpful, and they have a number you can call as well.

Note that to guarantee maximum coverage, most travel insurance providers require that you obtain a policy within 10 - 15 days of placing your initial deposit.

International Yoga gets hundreds of individuals each year who travel alone on retreat.

If you prefer to share your room, we will do our best to match you with another traveler of the same gender. Tips for the kitchen, dining & housekeeping staff are not included in your trip price. We suggest that you budget $15 per day/person or $100 per week/person. All gratuities should be paid in cash.

Do I need a visa for travel to Mexico?

No, acquiring a visa prior to your travel to Mexico is not required. During the flight to Oaxaca you will be given documentation to fill out which you will then need to present to the immigration official upon your entry into Mexico. BE SURE YOU KEEP THIS PIECE OF PAPER FOR YOUR DEPARTURE. You will be asked for this upon check-in for your return flight home. If you do not have this piece of paper there will be a fine and the hassle of redoing all of this paperwork on the spot!

Does my travel require any vaccinations?

There are no required vaccinations for travel to Mexico. However, there are some recommended (suggested) vaccinations given by the CDC. To see the complete list of what is recommended, please visit the CDC Website and consult with your primary care physician to make a decision on what is best for you.
