Golden Sand, Open Heart: The Soul of Morocco

Golden Sand, Open Heart: The Soul of Morocco

This is an invitation to open your heart, awaken your senses, and experience Morocco in a way that goes far beyond simply visiting a beautiful place.

We’ll move through intentional yoga, breathwork, and meditation while allowing the soul of Morocco to move us. We’ll immerse ourselves in the culture, share delicious food, wander through ancient landscapes, and create space for the kind of connection that happens when you step outside your everyday life.

There will be adventure in the desert and mountains, moments of stillness and wonder, and plenty of opportunities to soak it all in. We’ll experience the sights, sounds, tastes, scents, textures, and energy of Morocco—letting travel become a full-body, heart-opening experience.

Come for the yoga, adventure, food, and beauty. But most of all, come to open your heart, reconnect with yourself, and experience Morocco with all of your senses.

This is more than a yoga retreat. It’s a journey. An adventure. A deep exhale. A coming alive.

Amber Cook Green
With 17 years of teaching, a poetry degree from Columbia College, and as a board certified Physical Therapy Assistant, Amber guides students through yoga that heals both body and soul. Amber has a unique approach that weaves together the anatomical precision of physical therapy, the linguistic beauty of poetry, the ancient wisdom of yoga philosophy, the practical application of props and alignment, and the transformative power of conscious breathing. Amber bridges worlds that too often remain separate. She believes healing should be both effective AND beautiful. She believes yoga instruction can be both therapeutically sound AND spiritually inspiring. She believes that when we combine medical knowledge with poetic wisdom, we create something more powerful than either could be alone.

FAQ

Is this more of a yoga retreat or an adventure trip?

This experience leans more toward an immersive travel adventure, with less downtime than a traditional yoga retreat. While we will enjoy at least one yoga practice each day—some days offering two and a bit more leisure—our journey includes vibrant movement across Morocco. We’ll travel from the lively streets of Marrakech, to the stillness of the Agafay Desert, and up into the majestic Atlas Mountains, staying in three distinct accommodations along the way. Cultural excursions, artisan visits, and curated moments of connection fill the itinerary, so come ready to explore, engage, and be inspired by this dynamic landscape. Click here to view the full trip itinerary!

What kind of yoga can I expect on this retreat?

Amber offers a welcoming practice that offers support without prescribing, depth without dogma, and space to listen inward.

When should I place my deposit for this trip?

Given the complexity and extremely limited number of spaces at our handpicked luxury accommodations, we strongly suggest placing your deposits as soon as possible.

What airport do I fly into?

You will book your international ticket into and out of Marrakesh (airport code: RAK).

Are there group airfares?

There are no group airfares, as we will have people joining us from all over the US, with some arriving early, some arriving late, some using miles, etc. We are happy to provide guidance and review any itineraries you find. Please contact us before purchasing flights, and as always, travel insurance is strongly recommended.

Do I need a Visa for travel to Morocco?

American citizen visitors to Morocco do not need a visa if they are traveling as a tourist with a valid U.S. passport. You will be issued a visa upon arrival, which is valid for up to 90 days.

What if I'm traveling alone?

We get hundreds of travelers each year who go on retreats alone. If you are traveling without a friend or partner, but prefer to share your room, we will do our best to match you with another traveler of the same gender. If for some reason, we are not able to match you with a roommate, a single supplement will apply.

If you prefer to have your own private room, a single supplement will apply.

Do I need to bring a yoga mat? Will props be available during yoga classes?

Yes, please bring your own mat in addition to blocks and a strap if you use props during your practice.

Are airport transfers included in the price of my trip?

Yes, private airport transfers are included in the price of your trip. Note if you arrive early and decide to stay at an alternate location other than our group hotel, you will be responsible for coordinating and paying for your own transportation directly with the hotel where you will be staying.

How many people are expected on this trip?

Attendance varies from trip to trip, but 15 - 25 attendees is a general average.

What are the accommodations like?

This journey includes stays at three distinctive boutique properties across Morocco—from the vibrant heart of Marrakech to the stillness of the Agafay Desert and the breathtaking Atlas Mountains. Each hotel has been thoughtfully selected for its atmosphere, design, location, and warm hospitality. Please note that rooms vary in size, layout, and features, and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Are all levels of yoga welcome, from beginning to more advanced?

Yes, all levels are welcome. You will find that wherever you are in your practice you will get just what you need out of the yoga classes on this retreat. International Yoga works only with experienced and extremely qualified teachers, which ensures that everyone's yoga needs will be met.

Do I need travel insurance?

At International Yoga, we strongly recommend the purchase of travel insurance to protect yourself and your investment. Unexpected events—such as personal emergencies, political or environmental factors, health issues, or weather-related disruptions—can arise and may prevent or interrupt your travel plans. Note that because we must strictly adhere to our cancellation policy, you will be responsible for 100% of any costs associated with the cancellation or interruption of your retreat should you choose not to purchase travel insurance.

While we do not provide recommendations for specific policies, we suggest exploring options through the reputable travel insurance aggregator, InsureMyTrip. They can help you find a provider and policy that best suits your needs. For maximum coverage, we advise purchasing travel insurance within 7–10 days of placing your initial deposit.

What is the cancellation policy for this trip?

A $1,000 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit is required to reserve your space on the retreat, with the final balance due by December 10, 2027. If you cancel before the final balance deadline, we will refund all payments received, less the non-refundable deposit. Any outstanding balance will be automatically charged to the payment method on file on the due date, unless otherwise arranged with International Yoga. Registrations received after the final balance deadline require payment in full at the time of registration. As outlined in our Terms & Conditions, all final balance payments are non-refundable and non-transferable after the final balance deadline. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.
