Peace in Peru: Retreat to the Sacred Mountains

Peace in Peru: Retreat to the Sacred Mountains

Join Jennifer for the trip of a lifetime! Retreat to Peru's sacred mountains and recharge while connecting with the divine elements of nature. We will begin our journey with 6 nights at a vibrant retreat center located in the Sacred Valley, surrounded by mountains and lush gardens. During the first few days you will have the chance to acclimate to the altitude as you enjoy spa treatments onsite, as well as slow flow and yin yoga classes with Jennifer. By day three, you will head off on daily excursions with our expert local guide Valentine. Hiking through ancient Incan cities, strolling through local markets, and visiting Valentin's family farm for a traditional Peruvian meal, are just a few of the highlights! By day seven, you will board the train to Aguas Calientes, also known as the gateway to Machu Picchu, where you will prepare for the next day's big adventure. After a quick bus ride up the mountainside, you will explore all that Machu Picchu has to offer. After our time exploring this ancient Incan city, you will make your way back to the train and head off to the vibrant city of Cusco for the last 2 nights! During your time in Cusco you will again have the chance to dive deeply into your yoga practice with Jennifer, taste the local cuisine, visit a llama and alpaca farm, and maybe even do a bit of Salsa dancing!

Jennifer Elliott
During college, a professor suggested that Jennifer write an essay on yoga and meditation. This experience sparked an immense interest that eventually led to a life-changing path and the study of yoga and the physical body. Jennifer’s journey led her to become a massage therapist, an LMU certified Yoga Therapist and ERYT-500. In teaching for more than two decades, her experiences include leading many 200 and 300-hour teacher trainings for YogaWorks and other smaller studios. She helped develop two yoga schools that are registered with the Yoga Alliance and created her own successful Yin teacher training. Valentin's Pachamama Journeys, Peru
IY Travel Impact

We have been partnering with Valentin Baca Baños, a Peruvian native, for over a decade. His tour company, Valentin’s Pachamama Journeys, is strongly committed to supporting social projects that help local people and the economy in Peru. They partner with humanitarian organizations to supply shoes, hats, medicine, and other needs to local children and their families. As part of IY's Travel Impact Program, a portion of your trip price will be donated to a local school that Valentin has built to support the children in his Sacred Valley community. We will have the opportunity to visit the school during our trip and donate additional supplies.

FAQ

When should I place my deposit?

We strongly recommend placing a deposit to secure your space on this trip as soon as possible. Given the complexity of this journey, there are multiple reservations that require significant advanced booking and financial commitments. These are made on your behalf (space permitting) as soon as you place your deposit. These types of reservations include but are not limited to: multiple hotel bookings, train tickets, bus transportation, entry permits to Huyana Picchu (extremely limited & government regulated) and more. We will do everything we can to confirm all necessary reservations and permits however, we can not guarantee these arrangements without advanced booking. For questions please email [email protected].

Are meals included?

All meals are included during the first 7 days of the program in the Sacred Valley at our retreat center. Lunches and dinners are not included during our days in Aguas Calientes and Cusco.

What airport do I fly into?

Flying from the US: You will book your international ticket in and out of Cusco International Airport (Code: CUZ)

Traveling to Peru requires a connection in Lima (airport code: LIM). The flight from Lima to Cusco is 1 hour. Depending on the airline, this may require that you book tickets separately. We suggest that you consider booking a flight into Cusco with LATAM or TACA that arrives prior to 11 a.m. Earlier flights are subject to fewer weather-related delays than flights arriving later in the day.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may need to stay overnight in Lima before catching your connection to Cusco. If this is the case, there is a Wyndham hotel attached to the Lima airport where you can rest on your stopover. To book please contact Wyndham directly.

Further details about booking flights will be provided upon registration.

What are the accommodations like?

Our retreat center is a natural and transformative setting, perfect for diving deep into the practice of yoga. Body, mind, and soul can be nourished and fed in the center's outdoor and indoor yoga spaces. These simple yet lovely accommodations will be home in the sacred valley as you explore both your yoga practice as well as the nearby ancient ruins.

During our time in Aguas Calientes and Cusco, we will stay at hotels selected carefully for their location and level of service. More details will be provided upon registration.

Are there group airfares?

We do not offer group airfares, as we will have people joining us from all over the US, with some arriving early, some arriving late, some using miles, etc. We recommend using "Google Flights" to easily compare flight options and are happy to review any flight itinerary you might be considering. For questions, please email [email protected]

Do I need a visa for travel to Peru?

American citizen visitors to Peru do not need a visa if they are traveling as a tourist with a valid U.S. passport. You will be issued a tourist card upon entry, which is valid for up to 90 days.

What if I am traveling alone?

We get hundreds of travelers each year who go on retreat alone. If you are traveling without a friend or partner, but prefer to share your room, we will do our best to match you with another traveler of the same gender. If for some reason, we are not able to match you with a roommate, a single supplement will apply.

If you prefer to have your own private room, a single supplement will apply.

How many people are expected on this trip?

Attendance varies from trip to trip, but 15-20 attendees is a general average.

Are airport transfers included in the price of my trip?

Yes, private airport transfers are included in the price of your trip.

Note: If you arrive early and decide to stay at an alternate location other than our group hotel, you will be responsible for coordinating and paying for your own transportation directly with the hotel where you will be staying.

Do I need Travel Insurance?

International Yoga strongly recommends the purchase of travel insurance. A personal, political, environmental, health, or weather-related incident may arise that can prevent or interrupt your travels. Note that if you elect to not purchase travel insurance you will be assuming 100% of any costs associated with the cancellation/ interruption of your retreat.

As International Yoga cannot advise on specific travel insurance plans, we recommend the reputable travel insurance aggregator InsureMyTrip. They will provide personalized support in selecting a travel insurance provider and policy that works best for your specific needs. Note that most travel insurance providers require that you purchase coverage within 7 to 10 days of your initial booking.

What is the cancellation policy?

A non-refundable $500 deposit is required to hold your spot on the trip. If you cancel prior to the final balance deadline, March 1, 2024, we will refund any payments you've made minus the non-refundable deposit. All payments are non-refundable after March 1, 2024. International Yoga must strictly adhere to its cancellation policy to offset costs incurred prior to the commencement of the retreat. Click here to view the Terms and Conditions which you agreed to upon registration. We strongly suggest purchasing 'Cancel For Any Reason' travel insurance to ensure you are covered should any unexpected event arise. A personal, political, environmental, health, or weather-related incident or pre-existing medical condition may prevent or interrupt your travels.  Should you elect to not purchase travel insurance, you will be assuming 100% of any costs incurred for trip cancellation or trip interruption.

If you wish to cancel your participation in this program you must advise International Yoga in writing to: [email protected].
