A yoga teacher since she was 15, Chelsey brings fearless energy and boundless joy to her practice. Her diverse background in movement practices includes Anusara, Power Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Acro-yoga, along with martial arts training and a variety of dance genres. To Chelsey, yoga isn’t just an activity—it’s a way of life.

Chelsey has used this philosophy to cultivate a unique practice, AWAKE, that gives her students the tools to be more intentional and present in their everyday lives. Combining soul, spirit, and environment, AWAKE invites students to look inward to reconnect with the world around them. Chelsey herself is an avid journaler and makes sure to build in time for reflection and connection in her classes. Frequently teaching at Wanderlust and an Adidas athlete, Chelsey will lead you on your yoga journey with capable expertise.

FAQ

How did you first discover yoga, and what has your journey as a teacher been like?

I discovered yoga as a teenager through my rebellious phase. It revealed a path to a new way of living, thinking and being than I ever thought was possible.  It was revolutionary to my 15yr old mind.

Why do you incorporate journaling prompts into your practice?

The physical Yoga practice can reveal to us things that have been buried or hidden from our view. To take the extra step to write them down helps them come alive in order to process them.

Where is your favorite place to practice yoga?

Outside in Nature (preferably on flat ground).

Do you have any wellness routines that help you settle in to a new place when you travel?

Getting barefoot out in nature as soon as possible.

Why is the environment a core tenent of your yoga practice?

Because Nature is the co-teacher. The environment that surrounds us is a living breathing being with its own energy inviting us to collaborate. We will learn from her as much as she will learn from us.

Your AWAKE practice centers around soul, spirit, and environment. How do each of these elements come together through the practice?

Soul - is the deep dive into our individual path.  Spirit - is the rising above to see how our Soul fits into the collective.  Environment - when we take what we learn from Soul and Spirit and put them into action, creating the change we want to see.

How can traveling to a new place during a retreat help students connect more fully with the present moment?

Traveling takes you out of your habitual routines and makes it easier to have a fresh perspective on life.

What do you hope students will take away from the retreat at Playa Viva?

That they matter, and they have a unique gift to give the world.  Also to equip them with a better understanding of their True Nature and practices they can take with them to continue on their path.

What does Regenerative mean to you/ how is it incorporated into your practice?

My favorite definition of this word is “to be formed again”. A big theme of what I teach is letting go of what was ‘not ours to carry’ so we can get to a place where we are raw material and are available to be transformed.
