Mimi Rieger, (E-RYT Yoga Alliance) is an internationally recognized yoga teacher and the proprietor of Mimi Rieger Yoga, Urban Om DC, and PureFitnessDC, LLC.  Mimi began her fitness journey as a ballet dancer in her youth and discovered the yogic and martial arts in her 20’s.   Mimi has been teaching yoga since 2003 and received her certification from the Ashtanga Yoga Center in Washington, DC.  She has studied and trained with an array of schools of yoga including Rocket Vinyasa Yoga, Progressive Ashtanga, Budokon and Forrest Yoga.  Mimi uses her multidisciplinary approach to teach a wide variety of offerings and trains teachers and students in the U.S. and internationally holding workshops and master classes. Mimi conducts a yearly 200hr Yoga Teacher Training program, as well as, offers regular retreats and donation based-charity driven classes. In addition to teaching, Mimi is co-founder of Viva Shakti, a clothing line producing exciting, vibrant colored, yoga pants. 

Mimi believes in encouraging students to push past their existing physical barriers to explore new, more powerful paths.  She leads with her heart each day and honors the path of each student as they arrive to the mats. Her classes incorporate her lineages of Ashtanga, Rocket, Budokon and Vinyasa yoga cultivating intelligent, thoughtful movement.  Attaining full body connectivity and awareness of body and self is paramount in Mimi’s philosophy of teaching where students reach an overall sense of strength, energetic power and well being.  Mimi has taught First Lady, Michelle Obama, influential public figures, professional sports teams, corporate wellness programs, executive retreats, global yoga festivals, and private clients. She teaches with creativity and compassion at the helm as she encourages her students to grow and evolve both on and off their yoga mats.  A constant seeker herself, she continues to study with her teachers and travel to expand her breadth of knowledge to share her love of the movement arts with her beloved students.

What inspired you to teach yoga?

Finding yoga completely shifted the trajectory of my life, gave me a voice, a mission and a passion for service, community and LOVE.

Who are your most influential teachers?

First teacher David Ingalls, David Kyle & Jill Satterfield.

How would you describe your style?

Integration of my various lineages and fields of study. Encouraging students to explore a deeper, strong sense of self through the physical body while creating awareness of self and evolving as a loving, passionate human being.

Why do you feel retreats are transformational?

Gifting yourself with time away from life is a step in transformation where valuing oneself will open countless doors and paths to meeting new people, discovering a physical edge and growing in culture, experience and service.

What is your favorite pose to teach?

I love to teach Bakasana because it is a gateway to so many other adventuresome firsts! Taking the risk to shift forward on leave the earth for the precarious balance of the hands is a monumental step for many and the beginning of a stronger will and perseverance on and off of the mat.
 

What is your favorite pose to practice?

Revolved triangle as I can feel so much in this asana and I have to work very hard.

What are your favorite places to travel?

Bali, Europe, Costa Rica, Turkey, California, Louisiana (my home state), Santa Fe & Sweden.,
