Cora Wen is an international alignment yoga teacher, contributor to Yoga Journal, and a specialist on South Asian culture. She is a favorite of yoga students of all levels due to the extraordinary energy and life experiences she brings to classes.

Cora’s classes are uplifting and fun. Over many years she has evolved a unique, personal style that safely blends alignment and therapeutic yoga into artful sequences. Her expertise in therapeutics has arisen from over two decades of teaching and apprenticing with influential teachers including Judith Hanson Lasater in Restorative Yoga, and in the Iyengar method with senior teachers Patricia Walden and Manouso Manos.
Cora has the precise knowledge of a mature teacher and the joyful heart of a loving friend. An international childhood in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Switzerland, Australia and the US, has instilled the spirit of a traveling adventurer. After sowing wild oats in NewYork City in the 70s with rockers Deborah Harry and Patti Smith, she had careers in fashion and banking. Cora has organized international tours in India, Cambodia, Laos, Java, Bhutan, the Himalayas, and Central America, as well as developing Yoga Experiences and the Wellness Programs for Aman; Mandarin Oriental and the COMO Resorts.
A believer in giving back, Cora Wen supports two causes close to her heart: the indigenous culture of exiled Tibetan people and help for land mine victims. For more information visit:

What inspired you to teach yoga?

My childhood was influenced by an early meeting with a Buddhist monk, who took me under his tutelage. I had seen yogis as a child in Hong Kong, and thought the poses looked interesting, and I mimicked them. In the first yoga class with Rodney Yee in the 80's, I was brought up into a backbend, and felt the complete body connection of all the years of Buddhist sitting meditation and philosophy. Everything suddenly made sense - compassion, freedom, bliss. and after the bliss, came the hard work of looking inside deeply to fall in love with myself. Yoga is love, and connection with others. Yoga brought me home to myself. Yoga is our best support, and I wanted to share this experience of connection and deep nourishment.

Why do you feel retreats are transformational?

I have been leading international retreats since 2001, and personally witnessed the change we can have when immersed in time and space to practice yoga, sit quietly, and connect with community. It is a gift of heart and connection that can only happen when we are immersed in a place and experience together. Practicing yoga and meditation helps to connect us on trips and beyond.
