Immerse yourself in the culture of Northern India as we explore some of the most treasured cities of the holy motherland of yoga. Beginning in bustling Delhi, where old meets new, we will hop on a rickshaw and tour the narrow lanes of Delhi’s ancient bazaars, visit India’s largest mosque and sample some of the subcontinent’s most sumptuous cuisine. From here, we will drive to Rishikesh — the land of the Rishis (saints, sages, and divinely inspired poets). It is believed that meditation in Rishikesh brings one closer to attainment of moksha (liberation), as does a dip in the holy Ganges river which flows through town. Once made famous by the Beatles’ visit in the ‘60s, we will spend some time at the ashram of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Experience the sounds of temple bells ringing as sadhus (spiritual men), pilgrims and tourists prepare for the nightly ganga aarti ceremonies. From here we will travel back to Delhi to then transition to Varanasi, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, and for many, the highlight of any journey to India. Hinduism’s principal pilgrimage city, people travel thousands of miles to bathe in its sacred waters. All of life’s rituals are on full display along the banks of the holy Ganges River—a sight that will stay with you forever. The trip concludes with our return flight to Delhi. An experienced guide will accompany us throughout the journey and we’ll also have additional local “insider” guides in each city. Restaurants are selected for their excellent cuisine in addition to their hygiene standards, and we’ll have our own private buses in each location, often flying between locations for maximum comfort and minimum travel hassle.
